 Fred has been involved in pre-hospital care since 1968 when he went to work for Bismarck Ambulance Service. In 1971, Fred acquired 25% ownership in the service, and in 1973, he purchased 50% of the company. Fred realized the need to combine the Bismarck and Mandan ambulance services in order to provide Advanced Life Support for the entire area. Fred became an owner of Metro Area Ambulance Service, Inc. in April of 1983. Fred focuses the majority of his time in the areas of financial and personnel management, and has completed his management-training course through the American Ambulance Association in November of 1999.

Fred is active in the American Ambulance Association, North Dakota EMS Association, Minnesota Ambulance Association, and the Bismarck-Mandan Elks.
